Powdered cellulose

Powdered cellulose, derived from plant cell walls such as wood pulp or cotton, is commonly used in pet food primarily as a source of dietary fiber. It adds bulk to the stool, promoting regular bowel movements and supporting weight management by helping pets feel full without adding extra calories. It is also beneficial in controlling hairballs in cats.

However, powdered cellulose is not without controversy. Some pet owners and experts view it as a cheap filler that lacks nutritional value beyond fiber. There are concerns about its potential to interfere with nutrient absorption if used excessively.

Many prefer more natural fiber sources like pumpkin or sweet potatoes, which also provide additional nutrients. There is a great selection of foods without cellulose that contain different levels of fiber to suit your individual requirements, with fiber coming from more natural sources.
